Travel Memories
This is a gateway page to our various travel books and other projects. We have taken lots of photographs [and video] from our travels. Initially we created photo books, with very little text, and movies, which had very little information about where we had been and out thoughts about the area and people.
One of things that Kate has always done is to write a journal about our trip. She has a dozen different journals in a couple of formats. Some are on the laptop used when we travel; some are on paper. A few years ago [during the initial pandemic years] we started working on creating travel books with journal as the text and our photos [mostly hers] as the visuals.
We have decided that we could also put those books, in PDF format, on our website so we could share with family and friends. Or just have a digital copy of the printed work. [Not sure how we’ll manage the video just yet.] Here’s what we have posted so far:
- Japan Adventure, 1999
In 1999 we traveled to Japan with friends, Russ and Wendy Smith, to help them celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary. We spent two weeks traveling by train from north to south, concluding at Mt. Fuji and Tokyo during Cherry Blossom Festival. - South America Vacation, 2008
This was a terrific adventure that started in Santiago, Chile. The cruise went from Chile to Brazil with a number of memorable stops. There were penguins and glaciers and good eats. Highlights included a tour to the Andes [from Santiago] and the Falkland Islands. - Hawaii Cruise Vacation, 2012
It was Kate suggestion that Howard needed “sea days.” Lots of sea days to unwind and relax from his stressful job. This cruise took four days to reach Hawaii; it sailed around the islands for four days; it took five days to return to Los Angeles. It was relaxing and the ship had a wine bar with great [free] tapas. Hawaii was good, too. - Alaska Vacation, 2014
We took at cruise ship from San Francisco [where we saw family and friends] to Alaska. This was Howard’s first trip to Alaska; Kate had gone earlier with a girlfriend. Highlights included whale watching and walking on and around glaciers. Our vacation ended in in Vancouver. - Africa Adventure, 2018: Part One, Cruise
This was one our longest and perhaps most varied, vacations. We started in Lisbon with a couple of days to enjoy this city, which was new to both of us. Then we cruised south, along the western coast of Africa. Our journey’s end was in Cape Town, but not our adventure as we visited a wildlife reserve [see Part Two below]. - Africa Adventure, 2018: Part Two, Wildlife
At the end of our cruise along the coast of Africa, we spent three days in at a wildlife reserve called Sanbona. During our stay we took four drives into the preserve and captured many memories of our encounters.
